Solo Travel Surf Camp Morocco: What to Actually Expect at Salt House
By Yazid Kanane, Salt House Morocco
Most people who come to Salt House Morocco for the first time come alone. Not because it's a "solo travel camp" — it's not. It's a surf camp. But the way it's set up means solo travellers almost always end up having a better week than they expected.
Here's how it actually works.
Most of our guests arrive solo
Around 60% of the people who stay with us come without knowing anyone here. That number surprised us at first. Now it just makes sense.
When you're surfing twice a day with the same group, eating together at a shared table every night, and watching the sunset from the same rooftop — you get close fast. Not forced-bonding-exercise close. Just genuinely, naturally close. Salt House has a small capacity — we host a maximum of 24 guests — so it never feels like a hostel.
You'll know everyone's name by day two.
Is Tamraght safe for solo female travellers?
Yes. Tamraght is a quiet village. Local families, kids on bikes, a few cafés, cats everywhere. It doesn't have the party infrastructure or the hassle that bigger tourist towns can bring.
Our team is local — men and women — and we've hosted hundreds of solo female guests since 2017. A few things that matter practically:
Transport is handled. We pick you up at Agadir airport, and every morning the van takes you to the surf spot. You don't deal with taxis, directions, or any of that.
You speak your language. The team is fluent in English, French, Arabic, and Darija. If something feels off, you tell us.
You're never isolated. There are always people around — in the water, at the table, on the roof. But you also have your own space when you want it.
A lot of solo women who come here have told us it's the first time they've traveled alone and not thought about it once. That's not by accident.
What the week looks like
There's no rigid timetable, but most days follow the same rhythm.
Morning: Yazid or one of the coaches checks the forecast and swell maps early — usually by 7am — and picks the best spot for the group's level. Breakfast happens, then the van leaves. You're in the water by 9.
Each session is two to three hours. Small groups — never more than six people per coach. Not six people getting the same generic lesson. Six people getting coached based on where they actually are.
Afternoon: some people head to the hammam in the village, some stay on the roof, some paddle back out if the tide's right. Video analysis sessions happen on Wednesdays and Saturdays — you sit with the coach, watch your own footage, and get specific feedback.
Evening: Fati cooks. Every night it's different — tagine, couscous, fresh salads, harira — and it's always good. Most of the actual friendships that form happen at that table.
Some nights people end up at the village cafés. Some nights there's music on the roof. It finds its own shape.
Which package for solo travellers?
All four packages work. But here's what solo guests usually go for depending on their level:
Complete beginners — Surf & Yoga (€490/week). The structure helps when you're learning in a new place. Daily yoga balances the physical side.
Advanced surfers — Surf Guiding (€455/week) if you want to explore spots with a local guide, or Intermediate Surf Coaching (€510/week) if you want to actually improve under proper coaching.
Longboarders — Longboard Special (€510/week). We go into this properly in a separate post, but it's the only dedicated longboard coaching package in the region.
All packages are fully all-inclusive: room, every meal, surf, equipment, airport transfer, yoga.
What people ask before booking
Do I need to be a good surfer? No. Our packages cover beginner through advanced. You tell us your level when you book and we build the week around that.
Can I get a private room? Yes. We have double, twin, and triple private rooms as well as shared dorms. Most solo travellers take a private room, but some prefer the dorm for the social side.
Can I extend? Regularly. Plenty of people who book one week end up staying two. If you want to extend just let us know and we'll sort it.
